Vice President of Market Development (December 2005 to October 2006)

Managed company’s non-traditional and “guerrilla” marketing programs as well as served as company spokesperson for industry analysts, press, and bloggers, and many industry influencers.

  • Managed all viral and “word of mouth” marketing campaigns, which directly contributed to sales successes for the company internationally. At present, 2 of the top 5 markets have no advertising, and Slingbox sales in the UK were well beyond projections, despite no traditional marketing activities beyond press releases and product reviews.
  • Acted as evangelist at key industry events, such as CES, as well as across various online user communities; Gave keynote address at Texas Instruments to a group of ~1000.
  • Created multiple marketing relationships with Microsoft Corporation, earning the company the equivalent value of multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars of consumer and industry publicity.
  • Championed the creation of slingcommunity.com, a Slingbox user community providing interpersonal communications between users and the company. This community helps both in creating additional product sales as well as lowering customer support costs.

Responsible for delivering company’s flagship product to market.

  • Managed internal team of technical writer and graphic designer to deliver all graphics, user interface controls, user guide, help and support materials, setup guide, and packaging content.
  • Organized engineering efforts across domestic and remote offices
  • Developed all specifications for the company’s flagship product, the Slingbox, including user interface flowcharts, requirements compatibility with set-top boxes and routers, MRD, and technical implementation details (including protocol-level details).

MEDIABOLIC, INC– San Francisco, California, 1999 - 2004

Cofounder and Associate Vice President, Product Management

Initiated all aspects of product management at Mediabolic, from vision and roadmap documents, many of which are still part of long-term strategic plan (including media servers and IP set-tops).

  • Managed team of project managers to deliver products to companies such as Denon, Pioneer, Hewlett Packard, Fujitsu, and Creative.
  • Created product documentation (specifications, MRD, and use-cases) for over 10 networked entertainment devices, ranging in scope from simple thin audio client to dual-tuner personal video recorder/server.
