Ha! Agree that what;s out there does not qualify as an O/S - hence the opportunity for Apple to invent and own the category

@Mike - you've heard, I presume, of Apple TV and Airplay?

@Alan - agreed, except I don't really think there *is* a real O/S for a TV set... yet.

TV and PC functionality haven't really changed in almost 30 years. All companies are copycats with no innovation. Apple can bring a TV and PC together, with seamless and exciting interactivity with smart phones and tablet PC's: Just as a teaser, a throwing gesture of your device towards the "TV" would transfer the content or web page to it, into an automatic split screen... Of course, smart phones and tablet PC's would also flip to the TV screen, view it, and allow your fingers to manipulate it...

6. There's No Reason For Them To Build A TV Set - they want to build the operating system for the TV set, not the shell. The iPhone was both, but that's because phones needed improvement. A 42" HDTV being used as a dumb terminal doesn't really need a whole lot of physical improvement (what are they going to do - make it oval?) But the interface - how we navigate what's on that screen, how the various choices are displayed for us - that needs serious improvement and the solution is Apple's sweet spot: they design beautiful operating systems. So whether it's a set top box, a set top USB stick (Roku is releasing one) or an iPad app that functions as an EPG - that's where Apple is likely headed. They don't need the hassle of building yet another dumb terminal.
