I am in the same boat as far as the G1 since its the first Android phone and thus has the hardware/software kinks to be worked out in the public QA sphere.

If the G1 came out like this I would have got it right away - http://www.googleandblog.com/slick-google-android-phone/3215/

Do you agree?

@Brett
Thanks for your comment, glad you liked the post. Yeah, I was hoping that with Google software behind it the phone might handle email really well. Alas, it was less than I hoped for. Maybe the BB Bold will be cool enough to switch for. Doubt it though. ;)

@Dave
Totally. I think you're right on, and that Android will get better and better. And I'm into the Bold a lot also, it would solve my keyboard issues, and give me a camera (with a flash) that does video recording which is sweet. But, it still won't be as good of a media player (an iPod) as the iPhone is. Hmmm. No perfect package yet. Thanks for the comment.

This is exactly the matchup I wanted to see. The iPhone's a dream if you play in Apple's sandbox (mail.app, MobileMe), but I'm hoping for a phone that plays as nicely with the Google suite. Sorry to hear its not there yet, but I'm looking forward to the next few rounds of Android phones.

Android is still rough around the edges and lacking in many areas. I'd say the Blackberry Bold, Javelin, or Thunder are the more polished competitors. Not to mention, the Blackberry platform is getting SlingPlayer Mobile any day now and the Slacker music app - neither of which are available on the iPhone. (yet?) Though the iPhone handles Yahoo IMAP and contacts. Important for me, and it sounds like you too.

Great post. I've read a few reviews about the google phone but haven't seen a side by side comparison yet so this was super helpful. Too bad about the email, I thought that may be one area that google could overtake the iphone.
