Assuming TuneUp's db is good enough to distinguish between, say, the single version and the album version of a song, I still have to wonder how the service handles compilations like greatest hits albums or movie soundtracks. To be sure many would prefer the tracks be labeled according to their original release. But buying a compilation is like buying a pre-made playlist— and as a minor quibble, I do not care to recreate all those playlists manually.

I doubt that it could help me, since even iTunes metadata for the music I like is ... bad. Not really wrong, but does not make use of all the possibilities.

How does TuneUp's database work for, let's say, classical music *gasp*. What I want is to keep my music organized by composer. With even the "Artist" field set to be just this composer (because that main artist is Bach or Beethoven or Mozart, IMO). And to use the "Album Artist" field for the conductor, or orchestra, or soloist.

Currently, this information is all over the place -- in the title, or Artist field mostly. Very seldom do the databases even use the "composer" or "album artist" field.

IMO, the whole metadata needs to be reworked. Or needs definitive guidelines.

How do you add, for instance, which Beatle song was composed/lyrics written by which Beatle?
