Who’s The King Of The Hill (Today)

Yahoo! announced that they are upping their email storage to 1 gigabyte. That’s a 400% increase from their current 250 megabyte capacity. My educated guess is that Google’s gmail email service which debuted with the 1 gigabyte offering caught Yahoo! with their pants down. There seems to be a never ending battle between Google, Yahoo!, and MSN. Google has become the champion as of late, but I see MSN and Yahoo! ready to put up their dukes and get this party rockin’. Does that mean that I project MSN Hotmail to up their email account capacity to the 1 gigabyte mark? Something must be done or else they’re going to be left in the dust.

Yahoo just announced they are quadrupling their mail storage to 1 gig. According to John Batelle, Yahoo mail accounts for 40% of their page views, making it their secret profit driver. Gmail has probably been hurting them and now it's time to fight back.
It's amazing to see the search giants battle it out. The fight is increasing with amazing speed.

Your math is off. 1GB is a 300% increase from 250MB:

250MB = 1x = 0% increase
500MB = 2x = 100% increase
750MB = 3x = 200% increase
1GB = 4x = 300% increase

If you think this was annoying, it could be worse. I could redo the math to reflect that 1GB is actually 1024MB.

Well, apart from the gof up with the 400%, I dont see anything remarkable to know that 1024 bytes = 1 KB. Its just a convention to make life easier.
