Juicebox sounds like its not too refreshing
Lots of buzz about portable media players. As we say frequently, we really do not like the products or the category itself (read why here). But Mattel has really upped the ante as to why these devices are lame.
They did a good job of lowering the price - $69.99 makes a lot of sense for a toy like this. However, the system uses a proprietary format for content! You cannot play your own videos on it - ever! Furthermore, a full-length "chip" costs $24.99 - MORE than a DVD!!!
Not only that, the reviewer notes that the video quality is quite poor, and the audio is atrocious. But at least the battery life is good (5 hours).
So let me see if I get this right: it doesn't play content I already own, so I need to buy content from Mattel, but the content I am now buying is going to look and sound really bad, but at least I can watch it for a long, long time. Quite frankly, it sounds worse than a sharp stick in the eye.
Ready for some other lousy details?
Kids - Buy a game boy. Even find an old one if you need to...
Adults - Buy a portable DVD player.
Just don't buy the juicebox.
