iPod creates iEconomy?

Some quick fun stats:

Apple's stock is up 187% in 2004

Synaptics (the company who makes the wheel on the iPod) is up 152% this year

PortalPlayer (the company whose chip powers the unit) went public, and is up 72% since then

Analysts predict the hard drive-based MP3 players will grow, wait for it, 57% PER YEAR through 2008.
