Ballmer: Digital living room devices at 'tipping point'

First off, if you aren't familiar with the term 'tipping point', you should go read Malcolm Gladwell's book.

Now that we've covered that, Ballmer goes on to point out why he feels the PC (over the Mac) is triggering this revolution. I agree. Yes, I know iPods are #1 in the MP3 market, and Mac users are all hip and blah blah blah. Bottom line - Mac users are too small a market, and iPods are not huge because of Mac users. Of course, this is my opinion, and I'll write more about this one later (but I go on the record today, October 4th, 2004 to say that I do not believe that iPods will retain the market lead for more than 18 months, if not 12).

I think we are definitely at or near that point - too many companies are spending too much money on this type of a vision for it not to end up a reality.
